.:About Planning your day..

.:Timing

Clients always ask me when the best time of the day is to begin their wedding.

As the most important factor about photography is light, the best time of the day is when the sun is low and the light has lost its harsh glare. Shooting in the middle of the day can result in unsightly sweat beads, squinty eyes and harsh shadows accentuating facial features you may not want accentuated.

As a general rule, planning your ceremony about 2 hours before sunset will allow for good ambient light that is soft and flattering to the features. This is also a generally cooler and more pleasant time to shoot.

Planning your wedding too late in the afternoon can be even worse! The premise of the day in terms of photography is to capture beautiful images of you and your partner in a relaxed and natural manner. When flash light over-powers ambient light then background information becomes very dark and faces become unnaturally lit.

Generally the ceremony will go for 30 minutes give or take depending on minister or celebrant and location. The congratulations period between ceremony and family photos may take up to 25 minutes so please be realistic about this time and allow for it on the day. I will not be pressuring you to hurry and will allow this period to be flexible and casual.

Then generally comes the big group photos followed by family photos which may go for 15-25 minutes depending on the size of your family and number of guests.

Following this comes the bridal party photos. These are probably the most important photos of the day and I ask that we spend about an hour with you and the bridal party to allow maybe two or three different locations for shooting. These photos are often the emphasis of the day and are shot when the sun is low on the horizon and the temperature has dropped. We usually arrive back at the place of reception to enjoy the next part of the wedding when dusk finally falls.

All the above factors are static. They can vary depending on the weather or the type of wedding you are having. Many clients have asked me to shoot more candid photos rather than posed. Others have preferred to change the order of the shoot around entirely due to time restraints or location of the wedding.

Your wedding is your wedding and all of these factors depend on you. After meeting you on location and discussing what you want, I can draw up a tentative plan of the day. However flexibility and spontaneity can often lead to very memorable moments in your day.

.:Post Processing

Editing is by far the most time consuming part of wedding photography. Not because I am trying to create a new unnatural looking image, but because the camera is still not as intelligent as the human eye and often records the way light bounces off an object differently to how we see it on the day.

For example, often a white wedding dress may give off too much light, confusing the camera readings and possibly causing underexposure to the face. Or alternatively the face may be perfectly exposed while the dress is slightly overexposed - this can be corrected. Or perhaps the close-up photos of you in your hotel reveal a little too much detail for your liking - we can soften the face and keep the main features such as your eyes sharp without the image looking unnatural.

Editing all photos I take ensures the highest quality image possible and is all part of the service I provide with the package.
